The Magic Pixels gift guide
Useful gifts for plant lovers that are not another plant
If someone already has a windowsill full of plants, another plant may be a responsibility rather than a treat. Look at what they actually do: repot, propagate, grow seeds or take notes on what worked.
| Routine | Gift idea | Buying check |
|---|---|---|
| Repotting indoors | Foldable potting mat | Check that the corners fasten and the surface wipes clean. |
| Starting seeds | Reusable labels | Make sure the writing stays legible after watering. |
| Keeping cuttings | Small propagation vessel | Check stability and whether the opening is easy to clean. |
| Planning next season | Garden notebook | Leave room for notes rather than forcing a rigid schedule. |
Avoid specialist tools until you know whether they garden indoors, on a balcony or in a yard. A heavy soil scoop may be useful outdoors and pointless for someone with two tiny pots. Likewise, an attractive watering can can be hard to store.
Check materials and dimensions against their space. If you choose seeds, make sure the varieties suit their climate, light and local import rules. When in doubt, a small accessory that helps with an existing task is a more considered gift than a rare plant you hope they will enjoy.
